66-year-old woman struck, killed in downtown Houston intersection

HOUSTON— Police are investigating an accident that left a pedestrian dead in downtown Houston Thursday.

The victim, 66-year-old Joyce R. Levine, was hit by a Mercedes SUV in the intersection of Travis at Rusk.

Police and fire crews responded to the scene.

Investigators said the driver of the SUV was headed eastbound on Rusk when she made a right-hand turn onto Travis.

Levine was crossing Travis at the time and was struck.

Though the driver had a green light, police said Levine had the right-of-way.

The driver stayed at the scene after the accident.

The identity of the driver was not released and no charges have been filed..

Police are still investigating the case.
