HOUSTON – A pedestrian died after being hit by a uniformed police officer in a truck Saturday night in south Houston, police said.
According to the Houston Police Department, the accident happened around 10:40 p.m. on State Highway 288 near Holcombe.
Investigators said the officer was heading home in an HPD-issued unmarked Ford pickup when he struck the pedestrian as he ran across the freeway.
The man darted out into the lane and the officer could not stop in time and struck the man, police said.
The officer helped keep him breathing until the Houston Fire Department arrived and transported the pedestrian to Ben Taub Hospital where he later died.
Investigators said there is no fault on the part of the officer, and he was not hurt.
