HOUSTON—Pasadena police say one man is responsible for at least 20 Dollar General Store burglaries.
He is wanted in several cities and counties across Texas for stealing safes.
Employees are even nicknaming him.
“I guess the fast and the furious,” said Zabdi Leal, a Dollar Store employee.
Each time the method is the same. He backs up to the stores in a minivan with a trailer hitch, breaks the windows with a heavy object, ties a chain to the van and makes a beeline to the safe.
“He ties the safe and he takes off with it, no license plate or anything,” said Leal.
The video is clear as day. You could see the safe make its way out.
The robbery happened on Spencer Highway around 4 in the morning. Video from other Dollar General Stores show a man in a similar hoodie.
After seeing the video, Leal is paranoid.
“Checking out the customers more. It had to be someone who has gone in there and known where the safe was. It’s scary at night when I get out. I look around to see if there are any cars around looking at us,” said Leal.
Pasadena police said the thief has been burglarizing Dollar General Stores since May.
“He seems to be very nonchalant about it. Doesn’t seem to be in a rush. He takes his time. He is methodical,” said Vance Mitchell with the Pasadena Police Department.
The business owner next door is wondering if the same man made his way into their store.
“(We’ve been burglarized) more than 17 times,” said Maq Rahmain, the store owner next door.
They now have bars across the widows, hoping it will keep the criminals away.
Victims have a message for the thief.
“I say go the straightway, don’t do like this one. Because this is a good country, there is a lot of work, you have to work,” said Rahmain.
Dollar General is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who helps lead up to the arrest of the suspect.
