PASADENA, Texas—A 48-year-old man who shot his girlfriend after she accused him of cheating said the shooting was just an accident, according to Pasadena police.
Adam Agudelo was charged with aggravated assault of a family member.
Police said Agudelo and his girlfriend were out drinking at a bar with another friend on December 16. After they left, the trio went to the friend’s house, where Agudelo and his girlfriend began arguing. Aguleo’s girlfriend accused him of cheating with another woman so he slapped her in the mouth, the friend told investigators.
The woman began to bleed, then threatened to have her brother “take care” of Agudelo, according to court documents. Agudelo allegedly told his girlfriend he would shoot her and her brother.
The friend said he left the fighting couple alone and stepped into his bedroom to make a phone call. That is when he heard what sounded like a firecracker.
The friend returned to the living room to find the girlfriend suffering from gunshot wounds and Agudelo with a gun in his hand. Agudelo told the friend to call 911 and fled the scene.
Agudelo’s roommate and sister said he called them both, telling them it was just an accident.
The victim was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with a bullet in her left cheek and one in her left shoulder. The bullet that entered her mouth still remains in her abdomen. Doctors scheduled the woman for surgery where metal plates will be used to reconstruct her jaw and face.
Charges were filed against Agudelo and no bond has been given.
