PASADENA, Texas — A pregnant woman lost her baby Thursday night after the vehicle she was riding in crashed during a police chase in Pasadena.
Pasadena police were called out to a Valero gas station on Highway 225 at Pasadena Blvd. around 11:30 p.m. after hearing reports of a woman exhibiting bizarre behavior. She was in an SUV with another woman and a man.
When police arrived to investigate, the man – who was pumping gas at the time -- jumped behind the wheel and sped out of the parking lot.
Unsure of exactly what happened at the store, police followed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, but the driver refused to stop. The driver led police on a chase westbound on Highway 225, turned onto Lawndale and then to Central, where he lost control and crashed.
One of the women was ejected from the SUV. She was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in serious but stable condition. The pregnant woman was trapped underneath the vehicle. She was also taken to Ben Taub, in serious condition, but her baby died.
The male driver was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.
Police said they have no idea why he ran. He now faces felony evading with death charges.
A clerk inside the store told police prior to the chase, one of the women told him they were being held at gunpoint by an armed criminal.
