HOUSTON – A partially-naked man died Saturday in southeast Houston after getting into an altercation with police.

The incident happened around 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of Fuqua and Hesson.

According to police, officers responded to several calls of a man walking naked up and down the road along Featherwood and Fuqua. When officers arrived, they spotted a man that fit the description on the sidewalk of a Valero gas station. The suspect was wearing a shirt and shorts, but had his underwear in his hands.

When an officer stopped and tried to talk to him, the suspect started to run. The officer caught up to the man as he was only a few feet away. The suspect then started punching and kicking the officer.

A second unit arrived and helped get the suspect in handcuffs and in custody.

Police said while the suspect was lying there, he stopped breathing. HPD called the paramedics, who revived the suspect. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

An autopsy will confirm the cause of the man’s death, but authorities said he appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
