BAYTOWN, Texas — A mother and a father both have scars that remind them of something they wish they could forget. Their encounter with Baytown Police ended with both of them being tased in a parking lot.
“For them to treat people like that for no reason at all is not right,” said Jodie White, while pointing to several marks on her legs and back that she blames on a taser.
The encounter took place during what was supposed to be a happy occasion. The couple attended a birthday party for a little boy at JP’s Reception Hall in the 4200 block of West Baker Street Sunday afternoon.
The child is the couple’s nephew.
“I didn’t expect this at all,” said Christopher White. “This was the last thing on my mind.”
The Whites said that during the event, some of the adults started to argue. The police were called. Responding officers told the Whites to leave.
“There were police in the parking lot blocking it in so we couldn’t move,” said Jodie White.
She admits she hollered an insult at police.
“And then they just rushed my car and opened the door and tasers were just everywhere,” she said.
A family member recorded cell phone video of the commotion. Dozens of children are heard screaming in the background.
During the fracas, Christopher White was also tased.
“What did I do to deserve this?” he asked.
Baytown Police arrested the pair on disorderly conduct charges. Officials say the Whites were combative nearly slamming the car door on an officer’s hand. They say Christopher White wrestled with and nearly over-powered an officer.
But the Whites plan to file a formal complaint and insist there’s nothing they did to justify the police response.
“I have never been a trouble a day before in my life,” said Jodie White. “And for my kids to see me being tased on the ground, it just broke my heart.”
