HOUSTON – Some parents are calling for the Houston Independent School District to fire its superintendent Terry Grier. They marched from south Houston to Grier’s home in Uptown Sunday to protest the district’s plan to close five school campuses.
HISD says the school’s enrollment numbers are sliding and say it’s more efficient to close them.
Parents say Grier had to go.
“They’re raping our communities. Once they close the schools, they kill the communities and the communities that have been targeted are primarily minority communities and we feel like that will be a direct pipeline to prison for our children.”
The district says it hopes to create better and stronger schools by closing those with enrollment issues. They plan to vote on the proposal March 14.
