BELLAIRE, Texas -- Most kids want cool parents, but KHOU 11 News found some downright cold parents camping outside an HISD elementary school in Bellaire so their kids could make the pre-k list for next year.

Dozens of Horn Elementary School parents started lining up early Thursday afternoon to put their kids on the first-come-first-serve list for pre-kindergarten.

Many parents told KHOU 11 News camping out was their only hope at making the cut off. Around 40 kids were expected to be let in to Horn’s pre-k program, which many say is exemplary. Those not in the top 40 would be put on a waiting list.

Some parents said this year’s line was the longest yet, possibly caused by the closure of another nearby school’s pre-k program.
