CYPRESS, Texas -- One of the Republican Party’s biggest stars wants you to re-elect Gov. Rick Perry.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin came to town Sunday for a Perry campaign rally in Cypress.
“I doubt that there is another public figure in our country that gives liberals a bigger case of the hives than our special guest here today,” said Perry to a fired-up crowd of thousands. “At the very mention of her name, the liberals, the progressives, the media elites, they literally foam at the mouth.”
The afternoon was dubbed Super Sunday with Sarah Palin. The crowd was so loud it rivaled the sounds of the Super Bowl in Miami.
“I love Texas,” the former governor shouted from the podium.
Palin referred to Perry as a "tough cowboy." She told the crowd he’s a conservative leader who values common-sense solutions.
“In Washington they are too often looking out for Wall Street and Rick is looking out for you. So, on March 2nd you have a clear choice. I want to hear Texas, what’s it going to be? The way they operate in D.C. or the way y’all get things done in Texas,” she asked the crowd.
The former vice-presidential candidate made several comments suggesting Washington should take advice from the Lone Star State on how to do things right.
“I look forward to Texas sending a message to Washington,” she said.
Perry is campaiging against U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. Following Palin's appearance, Hutchison told the Associated Press that "despite today's theatrics, there's no covering up Rick Perry's decade-long record of cronyism in office that brought us the Trans-Texas Corridor and HPV mandate."
"When she ran, Sarah Palin took on an incumbent Republican governor and his cronyism," Hutchison spokesman Joe Pounder told the AP. "Today Kay Bailey Hutchison is doing the same and will clean up Austin, strengthen education and improve transportation."
Palin spoke at the Berry Center in Cypress fresh off her appearance at this weekend’s Tea Party Convention in Nashville. Her stop in Cypress also came shortly after an interview aired on "Fox News Sunday" in which she revealed a run for president in 2012 is not out of the question.
“If she runs in 2012 I already got my bumper stickers,” said Pat Shirling from Houston.
Palin supporters couldn’t help but speculate about her possible run or running mate.
“I think they make a great team,” Barbara Brehmer said referring to a Palin-Perry ticket. “Maybe that’s the way the team is going to make out.”
But it was the gubernatorial election that Palin spoke of Sunday as she received a Texas-sized acceptance from Perry and a crowd of thousands of cheering fans.
