HOUSTON -- A senior at Houston ISD’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) has a passion for theater unlike many others her age.

“I really just love the idea of making art,” said high school senior Carolina Trevino,

Carolina has dreams of becoming a filmmaker. Right now she’s sinking her teeth into her school’s theater company by writing and directing.

Carolina's love for all things theater has also led her to help create a student-run theater company benefiting different charities.

“We really love the idea of putting on theater and being able to give back to the community,” said Carolina.

Ticket sales have gone towards causes like HIV/AIDS awareness and multiple sclerosis research.

While she loves raining money for various charities, Carolina doesn’t expect to bring much home as she pursues a career in film.

“I know a lot of other students who would like to pursue art, but are discouraged ‘cause money-wise it’s not a very smart choice,” she said. “But my parents are like, ‘Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”’

Carolina has a top GPA and has landed her several college acceptance letters. She plans to study film and make art for the greater good -- for as long as she can.
