TEXAS CITY, Texas—A brand new outlet mall opened Friday in Texas City and it is already attracting traffic james.

When the Tanger Outlet mall opened, cars were backed up on the bridge over the Gulf Freeway.

There are more than 80 stores at the mall and it takes up about 350,000 square feet. Crowds were so huge the first day, drivers had to use overflow parking at Gulf Greyhound Park.

"It’s close by and there’s so many stores and everything looks so new around here," said Mary Alexander.

Many of the stores sell merchandise made exclusively for outlet malls. Some shoppers say they’ve found better bargains just waiting for sales at regular stores in regular malls, but Tanger is hoping to lure drivers headed down to Galveston for the weekend.

One of the arguably biggest attractions right next to the mall is still to come. They’re about to build the world’s biggest Buc-cee’s store.
