LA MARQUE — One person believed to be critically injured in a two-car crash was taken to the hospital, but the driver’s condition wasn’t immediately known.
La Marque police arrived in the 8200 block of FM 1765 shortly before 6 p.m. near Sonic to investigate a wreck.
An officer at the scene said a red car traveling east veered across the lanes of traffic, crossed the center line and collided with a westbound sport utility vehicle.
A nearby resident didn’t see but heard the collision, saying it took about 15 minutes for first responders to remove the driver of the car from the wreckage.
The vehicles were occupied only by the drivers. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, police said.
An ambulance took one person, believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries, to Mainland Medical Center in Texas City.
Texas City police and a state trooper assisted La Marque police.
