HARRIS COUNTY – Charges have been filed against a driver after a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler left one person dead late Friday night in north Harris County, according to sheriff’s deputies.
Everardo Trevino Perales is charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Department said that just before midnight deputies were dispatched to a major vehicle crash in the 800 block of Aldine Bender Road near the Hardy Toll Road. Deputies said that Perales was driving a black Mercury Grand Marquis heading north on the Hardy Toll Road along with passengers Jorge Moho and Jesus Ortiz.
Investigators said that the Grand Marquis collided with a 2011 Peterbilt truck towing a cargo tanker heading east on Aldine Bender.
Moho died at the scene from injuries sustained during the crash, investigators said. Perales and Ortiz were transported to a local trauma hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Peterbilt truck became engulfed with flames after the collision, but its driver, Jesse Ray Tolliver, was able to escape uninjured, investigators said.
Deputies said that the crash remains under investigation.
