HOUSTON -- The summer fireworks season officially kicked off Tuesday as statewide sales for July 4th fireworks got underway.
Officials with American Fireworks say more people are expected to celebrate July 4 with fireworks in 2014.
Due to recent rains, no burn bans are currently in effect for Southeast Texas, but there are bans in effect scattered throughout West Texas.
Keep in mind, however, fireworks are illegal in the City of Houston and some surrounding areas.
A two-percent tax on the sales go toward a state program to help rural fire departments.
Other Texas fireworks sales occur for Cinco de Mayo and New Year’s.
