HOUSTON –- An officer slammed into the back of the car he was chasing when the suspect crashed while taking the Katy Freeway ramp to the West Loop, police said.

The chase started around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday when a Houston Police Department officer said he spotted a car traveling around 100 miles per hour. The officer tried to stop the car, but it kept going.

The speeding driver eventually slammed into the plastic barrels on the freeway ramp, police said. The pursuing officer then slammed into the back of the suspect’s car.

The officer wasn’t injured, but the suspect was sent to the hospital in stable condition.
