HOUSTON – An off-duty Harris County Precinct 6 reserve deputy constable was killed early Sunday in an accident on the Gulf Freeway in southeast Houston, police said.
According to the Houston Police Department, the gray Dodge truck the deputy constable was riding in was heading north in the 9400 block the Gulf Freeway near Airport when whoever was driving the vehicle lost control.
The accident happened just before 2:30 a.m.
Investigators said the truck hit the retainer wall and both passengers were ejected from the truck.
The deputy flew over the service wall and landed on the feeder road below, police said. He died at the scene of the accident.
The second victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive, police said.
Investigators said that there were signs of alcohol in the second victim, but it still remains unclear who was the driver in the accident.
Police had all lanes of the Gulf Freeway closed for several hours while they conducted their investigation.
