HOUSTON—Occupy Houston protesters who are demonstrating against what they call Wall Street power and greed say the city should let them set up tents and give them free electricity so they can continue exercising their First Amendment rights.

Protesters and their supporters made the request to the Houston City Council Tuesday and said it’s better than the alternative.

“They’re not blocking doors to the City Hall, they’re not sleeping in the halls of the Federal Reserve building, and they’re not preventing business as usual at the big banks downtown... though that could be arranged,” said one Occupy Houston supporter.

The mayor said no one is allowed to camp in public parks and the city doesn’t give anyone electricity for free.
