HOUSTON -– Police said a motorcyclist wasn’t wearing a helmet when he hit the back of a dump truck and was seriously injured early Thursday.

The accident happened around 3 a.m. as the biker traveled westbound on Briar Forest Drive near W. Sam Houston Parkway, police said.

Investigators said the dump truck had just pulled into the roadway when the biker hit it from behind at a high rate of speed. Police said the rider either did not see the truck or couldn’t stop in time.

The rider suffered severe head injuries and was sent to the hospital in serious condition, according to HPD.

The dump truck driver was not expected to face any charges for the crash.
