HOUSTON –- Two officers with METRO Police were sent to the hospital early Friday after they collided while helping escort oversized big rigs, police said.
The officers were sent to the hospital with mostly minor injuries, although one of them may have suffered a broken leg.
According to Houston police, the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. along the Southwest Freeway near Beltway 8.
Police said several METRO officers were escorting two super-wide 18-wheelers inbound on the freeway’s frontage road when, for unknown reasons, two of the motorcycle units collided. Police said the crash happened as the officers went to block off an intersection.
The accident and investigation shut down the frontage road for about an hour.
