HOUSTON -- Gunshots outside the Royal Court II Banquet Hall ended a Sweet 16 party Saturday night and sent a mother to the hospital. Adding insult to her injury though, she says her daughter's presents are now missing.

"She had money, stuff people had given her, a lot of gift cards, everything was gone," said Mona Silva.

While Silva was being treated for gunshot wounds, she said family members went back to the banquet hall to pick up the gifts and were told they were gone.

"They said we don't have anything," said Silva.

She said her mother was told by the cleaning crew, "It's not our fault she got shot and we don't have to give anything back to you."

The venue's manager disputes the family's claims and said the gifts were returned.

"They started cleaning, they started finding the stuff and gave it to the grandpa," said manager Maria Hanke.

Hanke said the venue was left open in the chaos after the shooting. It is possible someone came in and took the presents and gift cards.

Silva, who was in extreme pain recovering from three bullet wounds, said she just wants to reclaim what's left of her daughter's 16th birthday.
