HOUSTON (AP) -- Extra prosecutors will be on duty to help law officers in the Houston area deal with suspected drunken drivers over the Christmas and New Year’s holiday periods.
Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson on Thursday announced the increased prosecution effort. She says investigators will target DWI cases Dec. 24-26, and also Dec. 31 and New Year’s Day.
The district attorney’s office has also partnered with the Texas Department of Transportation to display public service announcements on electronic highway message boards.
Anderson says Harris County has had at least 43 DWI-related fatalities so far this year.
AAA Texas has predicted 7.9 million people statewide will be traveling during the upcoming holidays—mainly by automobile.
