HOUSTON -- His truck is built Ford tough, but Mickey Murley is even tougher.

“When I saw them take off, I had to end it,” said Murley.

When he pulled up to his house at 4:30 a.m., he saw two men in black jumpsuits hop into a van and speed off, cutting through a ditch. Murley followed, and what the burglars didn’t realize was that they would soon encounter another ditch.

“I pushed them off the road,” said Murley. “The van swerved to the right, hit the ditch and did a sideways flip, and their shoes were in the road. Their shoes came off.”

The burglars fled and jumped a fence. The van had been stolen a short time earlier during another burglary.

“This was an elderly female,” said Lt. Dan Norris, spokesperson for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. “Someone had entered her home in the middle of the night, and she was scared. They told her to stay down and not look and she didn’t.”

She wasn’t injured, and neither was Murley, but you have to ask yourself, what was the 24-year-old thinking?

“Honestly,” he said, “I was more worried about telling my dad I had to use my truck to run some people off the road, but I had to do what I had to do, really. I’m tired of it.”

Burglars beware.
