HOUSTON—In some stores Super Bowl weekend, more money is being spent on certain items than during the holiday boom, and it is all inspired by the “Who Dat” fans (and the other guys) from around the world. Retailers are seeing a surge in business from loads of men who are amped up for Game Day.
Just in time for Super Bowl, gadgets every man thinks he needs are being unveiled!
“This is the first remote controlled drink delivering device, is the best way to describe it.”
Now you too can grab a cold one without ever leaving the lazy boy.
Some say it is ingenious! It sells for $49.99, which is a far cheaper Super Bowl item than what most men will spend this weekend.
A local electronics retailer is getting swamped with Super Bowl mania.
“It’s a crazy time for us,” said Zach Mot, Best Buy employee.
Best Buy was fully staffed Saturday because of all the last minute TV shoppers.
“You’d thinkThanksgiving, with all the big sales, would be a big drive time for us. But nevertheless, home theater Super Bowl is crazy,” said Mott.
Mott says his store alone will likely sell $150,000 dollars in merchandise in just half the day, mostly in home theater systems.
“You can get everything you need, which is great. Right,”said Julius Young, shopper.
Young said he needed, had to have, a surround sound stereo for his television.
“You gotta have the stereo up and the base up. You gotta do it right,”he said.
He left with what will become his second surround sound theater system, assembled in time for pre-game.
That is a move some men said was just common sense.
“I mean picture’s only half the battle right? You gotta have good sound to kind of immerse you in the whole feeling,” said Mott.
There is one down side to Super Bowl sales for stores. While tons of televisions are sold during Super Bowl weekend, when the game is over, many wind up back on the shelves. Televisions are fully refundable at Best Buy and Mott said on average, 10 to 12 sold will be returned returned after the game.
“It’s always been a thing for Best Buy to overcome, but they just deal with it.”
If you are TV shopping, here’s a tip: Best Buy’s Insignia brand is usually made by either LG, Toshiba or Samsung, and costs hundreds less than the brand names.
