SUGAR LAND, Texas -- Family and friends paid their respects to a fallen marine from Sugar Land Saturday morning. Lance Cpl. Garrett Gamble, 20,  was killed while on combat operations in Afghanistan last week.  A memorial service was held at the First United Methodist Church of Sugar Land, preceding a burial service at Houston National Cemetery.

Hundreds of friends, family, and supporters packed the church and lined the procession.  The Patriot Guard Riders also attended the service to demonstrate their support for the fallen fighter. Lou Freital, Captain of the Patriot Guard Riders said he came because his grandson was about to embark on his second tour of duty.  "He's a hero to us and he will always be a hero," Freital said.

Gamble's Marine Recruiters also attended the service.

"His nickname was sunshine, we had a great time, he was always eager to do whatever it took to accomplish what he had to do," Sgt. Gerald Greene told 11 News.  Greene said he first met Gamble when Gamble was just 16 years old.  "That was always something he wanted to do," Greene said.

Garrett Gamble was a 2008 Graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School.
