HOUSTON --- With a golden shovel in hand, Jim McIngvale -- better known as Mattress Mack -- broke ground on his newest Gallery Furniture location Tuesday while shouting his trademark slogan, “Save you money!”

The new store will be located off Grand Parkway just south of the Westpark Tollway, and according to McIngvale, it’s will be his largest store.

“It’ll be a big project, a 140,000 square foot store,” McIngvale said. “About 40 percent bigger than the North Freeway store.”

The theme of the festivities was “capitalism with a cause.”

McIngvale plans to hire veterans who live in the area, use local furniture vendors, and locally source food for the full-service restaurant.

And he also plans to get a helping hand from members of a special community in Brookshire.

“They’ll have a place there where they’ll make the products they sell inside the store and it will be manned by the Brookwood residents,” he said.

The Brookwood community, in Brookshire, provides jobs for adults with disabilities.

McIngvale said residents will sell products they make at the store.

“Employing people who have handicaps, but who are overcoming those handicaps every day,” he said.

McIngvale said all of this will bring 150 jobs to Fort Bend County and the doors of his newest store are expected to be open by Thanksgiving.
