HOUSTON—Arson investigators are trying to determine what started a fire at a donut shop in southeast Houston early Thursday.

Firefighters with the Houston Fire Department arrived to find heavy flames shooting from Mary Lee Donuts on the Gulf Freeway at S. Wayside around 2 a.m.

Flames had already spread to the roof, which had the possibility of collapsing, so firefighters immediately went into defensive mode and eventually got the fire under control.

The shop was closed at the time so no one was inside. No firefighters were injured battling the blaze.
