SPRING, Texas—A grieving widow was in Maryland Friday waiting for the body of her fallen Marine. Lauren Martin’s husband is the latest casualty in Operation Enduring Freedom.

The department of Defense confirmed Lance Corporal Shane R. Martin was killed in Afghanistan. The DOD said the 23-year-old Klein High School graduate died in combat.

Martin’s death brings this month’s death toll to 66 for the U.S. military, breaking last month’s record of 60 casualties. U.S. and NATO commanders warn things will likely get worse. The fighting is getting more intense as troops push further into Taliban territory and more troops are headed overseas.

President Obama has ordered up to 30,000 more men and women to Afghanistan.
