HUMBLE, Texas – Police from Houston and Humble investigated a hit-and-run incident on the Eastex Freeway late Sunday.

The crash happened as a man was pushing a disabled SUV on the frontage road near the San Jacinto River. Police said an oncoming driver slammed into the back of the vehicle, severing one of the man’s legs.

The offending driver fled the scene, but a witness followed him or her and relayed the license plate and vehicle description to police. Another passerby stopped and put a tourniquet on the injured man, who was then transported to a nearby hospital.

The frontage road northbound was closed while HPD and Humble police conducted their investigation.
