SPRING BRANCH, Texas – A man with a pit bull frightened a bus load of special needs students when he allegedly tried to rob a mother and her child who were waiting at a bus stop Friday morning.
Husamidden Mahir Muhammed, 38, was charged with felony theft.
According to Spring Branch ISD police, the mother and child were at a bus stop in the 8700 block of Hammerly Road around 8:20 a.m. when Muhammed approached them with a pit bull.
Muhammed tried to take the student’s backpack and the mother’s purse, but they both hopped onto the bus, police said.
The suspect tried to follow them onto the bus, with the dog, but the driver slammed the door and held it shut. Muhammed was arrested and the driver was able to get all of the children to school safely.
Police said Muhammed has served time in prison and has a lengthy, violent criminal past.
