HOUSTON -– A man who was threatening people with a stick at a shopping center was arrested following a chase on the east side of town, deputies said.

The incident started around 3 a.m. Friday.

Houston police officers and deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office were on their lunch break at a restaurant on Woodforest at E. Sam Houston Parkway when they witnessed a man with a stick threatening people in the parking lot.

One of the deputies said he approached the man, who jumped in his Chrysler sedan and sped off.

Police and deputies chased the suspect onto the East Freeway where he finally stopped near the East Loop.

Deputies said the man faces felony evading and assault charges.

Officials said apparently the man got into a dispute with some people at a business at the shopping center. After he was kicked out, he returned with the stick and started making threats. That's when deputies said they spotted the man and the chase ensued.
