HOUSTON – A man who thought he got away from police Wednesday night was interrupted from his prayers when they arrived at his door.

A Spring Valley police officer attempted to pull over a car for a traffic violation on the Katy Freeway at Campbell around 11 p.m., but the driver refused to stop.

The driver sped off, leading police on a lengthy chase until he ditched his car at a church and took off running. The officer ran into the car door, denting the front of the squad car and slowing down the pursuit. The suspect was nowhere in sight, but it was not over.

Houston police, Harris County Sheriff’s deputies and the Department of Public Safety troopers joined in the search and set up a perimeter, eventually tracking the suspect to a home near West Mount Houston at Trailridge Forest.

When they found him, he was in bed reading a Bible. Authorities took him into custody.
