HOUSTON -- A man died after being shot as he walked in northwest Houston early Tuesday, police said.
Officers with the Houston Police Department were called to the 5500 block of Antoine Drive south of W. Tidwell Road around 3 a.m.
Police said it appeared the man was shot by someone in a passing car. He then made his way into a nearby apartment complex.
“He staggers down, he walks to the entrance to the complex,” said Steve Straughter with HPD Homicide. “He comes in by the gate. He tries to jump the gate at one point, can’t make it. He goes to another portion of the gate where it looks like he makes it. He goes to the rear of the complex where he finally collapses. There were witnesses who tried to assist him but to no avail.”
The man, who was in his twenties, was not able to give a description of the suspects before he collapsed. HPD said he was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said a motive for the crime was not unknown, nor was it known if the victim knew his killer.
According to witness statements, a yellow vehicle was seen leaving the scene, but it’s not known if anyone in the vehicle was directly involved with the shooting.
