HOUSTON—A man who was trying to cross Highway 290 after his car broke down died after being struck by two vehicles late Saturday, according to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies.
Deputies said the man’s BMW broke down in the 22600 block of Highway 290 inboound at Matzke around 11:15 p.m.
He stepped into the emergency lane, then walked up about 100 yards before trying to cross to the outbound side.
A woman driving a 2004 Nissan Murano struck the man first, then he was hit by a second vehicle.
Deputies said there were no lights in that part of the freeway. No charges were expected to be filed.
