HOUSTON -- Two men smashed a car into a gas station near Clear Lake early Tuesday to steal an 18-pack of beer, police said.

The crime happened around 3 a.m. at a Valero in the 16600 block of El Camino Real.

Surveillance video showed a silver Chrysler 300 backing into the store’s front doors, smashing the glass. Two men wearing black masks then jumped out and ran into the store. Just a few seconds later, the pair was back in the car with their loot – a pack of Bud Light.

Customers of a nearby bar heard the commotion and called 911, but the suspects were gone when Houston police arrived.

Regulars at the store gawked over the damage.

“It sounds like some teenagers wanted something to drink and couldn’t find nobody to buy it for them,” said customer Henry Earskin. “I don’t understand that.”

Another customer, “Mr. Laird,” dropped in to help clean up the mess after seeing reports of the burglary on the news.

A store manager said the Valero should reopen later in the morning.
