HOUSTON --- A man said a trip to take his dog to the groomer ended in the veterinarian’s office.
Cypress resident Jason Baldwin said the simple grooming trip to Petco on Sunday turned into a nightmare for him and his 9-month-old cocker spaniel.
He said he found deep gashes in the dog’s neck and paws and he immediately took her to Bansfield Pet Hospital, where the cuts had to be closed with staples.
“How did my dog get cut nine times at the groomer,” Baldwin asked.
He said phone calls to Petco have not yielded straight answers. Calls to the store made by KHOU 11 News were also unanswered.
Dr. Brittany King treated the dog and, although she wouldn’t talk specifically about the case, she had advice for pet owners.
“Treat it like your own hair stylist, you’re probably going to want to talk to friends, get referrals,” she said.
So far, Baldwin’s vet bills have amounted to more than $200. He admitted that he didn’t research groomers before taking his dog to Petco and said he hopes this never happens to another dog lover.
The dog’s prognosis is good -- she is expected to make a full recovery. She will be on pain-killers for another 20 days and her stitches will be out in two weeks.
