STAFFORD, Texas -- A man riding a bicycle was killed by an Amtrak train on Wednesday evening, according to police.
According to the Stafford Police Department, the incident happened on Murphy Road at Highway 90 around 7:30 p.m.
Officers said the man, who was in his 40s or 50s, apparently tried to cross the railroad tracks while the crossing arms were down. Police said the man was riding his bike northbound on Murphy when he went around the lit arms.
The train, with 80 passengers onboard, was delayed as police investigated.
Officers determined the cyclist was at-fault in the incident.
While police were on the scene, an officer’s patrol car was struck by a passing driver. The officer suffered minor injuries and was sent to the hospital.
