LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas—What should have been a routine family disturbance call on Christmas Day elevated into a high-speed car chase that involved three different law enforcement agencies.

A Liberty County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a domestic disturbance call with a possible weapon involved and a violation of a protective order on FM 563, in the southeast part of the county, around 7:39 p.m.

Upon his arrival, the deputy saw a pickup truck, driven by 40-year-old Edgar Earl Taylor, speed through the front yard of the residence and a ditch, heading north towards Highway 90. The pickup quickly reached speeds of 90 miles an hour as the deputy followed behind.

The Liberty Police Department and DPS Troopers joined in.

As Taylor neared Highway 90, the Liberty Police Unit deployed a “stop stick” in the roadway that punctured the fleeing vehicle’s left front tire. Even with the punctured tire, Taylor again reached speeds of 90 MPH after he turned east on the highway, authorities said.

Taylor’s pickup finally began to slow as the damaged tire began to shred and come apart. He turned into a business and across a small field where his vehicle struck a sign and stalled. When ordered out of his vehicle, Taylor refused to exit and a window had to be broken out to gain custody of him.

A loaded rifle and two unloaded shotguns were found in Taylor’s vehicle as well as a packet of what later tested to be Methamphetamine.

Taylor was placed in the Liberty County jail and is being held on what turned out to be a Temporary Restraining Order. He was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with other possible charges pending.
