Man killed in alleged motorcycle racing incident near Conroe

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas –- One motorcyclist was killed and another was injured in an alleged racing accident south of Conroe, troopers said.

Witnesses said it happened just after 8 p.m. Monday on Old Humble Pipeline Road near FM 1314.

A man who was feeding horses said he heard the bikes fly by at a high rate of speed. The motorcyclists sideswiped each other and then went out of control.

A 1974 Kawasaki motorcycle ran off the road and hit a pipe. Craig Perkins Sr., 55, hit the edge of a driveway and was ejected from the bike.

Jeffery Michael Stansel, 34, also ran off the road and hit a mailbox and real estate sign before coming to rest in the woods.

Central Montgomery County Fire Deprtment responded and performed CPR on Perkins, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Stansel was treated for road rash and then taken into custody of the Texas DPS on racing charges.
