PEARLAND, Texas –- Pearland police are investigating the death of a man who was found outside a burning home early Wednesday.

The fire was reported in the 11700 block of Summer Brook Court around 4 a.m.

Neighbors tell KHOU 11 News they heard a loud bang and then looked outside to find the home on fire.

“We received a report of a gunshot and a fire in the house behind us,” said a spokesman for Pearland PD. “Officers got here and they found a deceased male. At this time it’s under investigation. Fire investigators there were no other bodies inside the house. We’re looking at the one male – as far as identification, nothing is going to be done until the next of kin is notified.”

The fire was mainly confined to the second floor and attic at the rear of the home.

It wasn’t immediately known if a gun was found at the scene, and police did not indicate how the man may have died.
