HOUSTON -- A man led Houston police on a lengthy chase that ended with flat tires and one person in custody early Friday.

The chase started in north Houston on Clark Street around 2:15 a.m. when an officer tried to stop an older Chevrolet Tahoe for traffic violations, according to the Houston Police Department.

The driver allegedly refused to stop and went northbound to Parker Road. He then went westbound on Rittenhouse at a high rate of speed.

HPD managed to flatten the SUV’s tires using a spike strip, and the chase came to an end on the North Freeway frontage road near Gulf Bank.

Police said the suspect jumped out and tried to run away, but he was quickly tackled and taken into custody.

Police said the man was highly under the influence of narcotics and had a pending probation violation charge.
