HOUSTON—A Baytown man was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital after police said he crashed his SUV into a restaurant.
Investigators said around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the man was traveling east on West Main at Lee Drive when he lost control of his 2008 Ford Expedition, veered off the roadway, careened through a parking lot and slammed into the Baytown Seafood Restaurant.
Life Flight was called and the 28-year-old man was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in good condition.
Investigators were working to determine if alcohol was involved and are waiting for the results of toxicology tests.
Family members said the man had attended a funeral earlier in the day and may have been distraught over the person’s death.
The owner of the restaurant said it was the fourth vehicle to crash into his building since 1993. One of those crashes was fatal.
Other business owners nearby say minor crashes on the corner bring the total to about eight.
The restaurant’s owner said repairs were under way, and the restaurant will be open Thursday.
The owner also said he’s in the process of building a new restaurant in a nearby parking lot – a location he hopes will minimize the crash threat.
