CONROE, Texas—Police were back out at a Walmart in Conroe Thursday morning after an elderly man was carjacked at gunpoint.

Officers at the scene said it happened in the 1400 block of North Loop 336 West around 7 a.m.

The victim, 82, had just dropped his wife off at the store when he was approached by a suspect with a gun.

"I stepped out, he pushed me back, pushed the door up against me," said Johnny Foster. "’Give me those keys.’ Momentarily, I didn’t do it. He said it again. He put the gun to my chest. I gave him the keys."

Foster got out of his truck, and the suspect took off.

Foster is a veteran who said he is thankful for his military training.

Police described the stolen truck as a black 2005 Dodge pickup with four doors. It had Texas handicapped plates 4GVGD.

Officers said Foster had a gun in his truck, but he wasn’t able to get to it before the suspect sped away.

Investigators said an elderly woman was carjacked at a nearby Petsmart on Monday.

They are working to determine if the crimes are connected. Anyone with information can call the Conroe Police Department at 936-522-3203.

Thursday's carjacking happened at the same Walmart where a suspected shoplifter was fatally shot by an off-duty officer the night before. The sergeant said the suspect choked him, forcing him to open fire.
