HOUSTON – Two brothers are facing charges after investigators say they beat and robbed one of the men’s girlfriend.
It happened on May 6, 2012, at the woman’s apartment on Kings Park Lane.
According to court documents, Colin Vernon Smith, 26, asked his girlfriend where the money she had received from a car-accident settlement was located.
When she told him he could not have it, the victim said Smith became enraged, threw her to the ground, punched her in the nose, grabbed her by the hair and started beating her head against the floor.
The victim said she told Smith the money was in the Dumpster, hoping he would leave and she would have a chance to escape.
Instead, investigators said Smith called his brother, 24-year-old Justin Smith.
When the younger Smith got to the apartment, the victim said Colin sent him to the Dumpster to find the money.
Justin Smith returned a short time later to say it wasn’t there, sending Colin into another fit of rage, investigators said.
The victim told police Colin asked Justin to step out, and then beat her again, and started choking her.
Eventually, she relented and told him the money was in her child’s toy box.
The victim said Colin grabbed the money and put it in a backpack.
She said Justin told her he was sorry Colin beat her up, but that he really needed the money.
The victim was taken to the hospital, where doctors said she’d suffered a broken nose, among other injuries.
Charges of aggravated robbery were filed against the brothers on May 7, 2012.
