HOUSTON—Charges have been filed against a man arrested in connection with a home burglary in which a Houston police officer opened fire.

It happened at about 6:30 p.m. Monday in the 3500 block of North Braeswood Boulevard.

An elderly man was home when the suspect, Jonathan Michael Jones, broke a window and entered the house, police said. When officers arrived, the resident saw the suspect was still in the house and the suspect chased after the resident before he charged at the sergeant, who was at the front door, police said.

The suspect did not follow the sergeant’s verbal commands to stop and show his hands so the sergeant discharged his weapon one time at the suspect and missed him.  The suspect then stopped and was taken into custody without further incident.

Jones has been charged with burglary of a habitation.

Neither the sergeant, nor anyone else was injured in the incident.

The case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, which is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents.
