HOUSTON – One man was in critical condition after his roommate allegedly clobbered him in the head with a barbell at a nursing home in north Harris County Monday night.

According to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies, two roommates at the Park Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, located on Lantern Bend near I-45, got into a heated argument around 8:30 p.m. That is when Raul Garci Rocha allegedly struck Mario Flores in the head with the barbell.

Flores was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he underwent surgery, but it was not known if he would survive.

Fellow residents were left shaken.

“I feel hurt. What if that happened to me? That can happen to anybody. If someone takes their rage out; that’s why I don’t want to be around crazy people,” said Denise James.

“It was just terrible. Bumping on the walls, bumping on the walls, that’s all I heard,” another resident said.

Rocha was charged with assault of a family member.
