HOUSTON—There is a new place in Houston for anyone who is buying, remodeling or decorating a home.

It is called MainStreet America and there is no other place like it in the USA. There are 12 model homes in the model home village, each outfitted with the newest, latest amenities.

People can spend the day with a device called TED. That stands for Technological Education Device. It allows you to point at an item, or the walls or the flooring to find out who sells it, which contractor did the work and how you can get it in your home.

“It’s pretty awesome,” said visitor Danny Green. “You can look at furniture, design everything.”

With TED, you can buy any of the furniture and appliances on the spot.  You just point TED at what you want and with a few clicks a truck will bring the item to your house in a couple days.

If you like, you can buy an entire room just as it.

“It’s called Just Like This and it will allow you to have this exact room in your house,” said Mike Feigin, creator of MainStreet America.

TED will tell you which contractor did the work and exactly what materials were used.

Admission to MainStreet America is $15 for adults. It is open seven days a week on Interestate-45 North just north of the Parramatta exit in Spring. A portion of the proceeds benefit Texas Children’s Hospital.

Memberships cost $50 per year for an individual. It includes admission to the model home park, 10 percent discount in the restaurant, invitations to members-only events and discount pricing on items in the homes.

The homes on MainStreet are by Design Tech and can be built on your lot. The price range is from about $140,000 to well over a million dollars.
