HOUSTON—Firefighters have put out a big fire at the LyondellBasell plant at Highway 225 near Lawndale. Emergency crews have determined there was no threat to the public and no one was hurt.
Huge plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing from the scene as fire crews from Houston and LyondellBasell battled the flames.
A few firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion.
It was not clear what sparked the fire in one of two crude distribution units. The units turn crude oil into gasoline, jet fuel, heating oil and lubricants.
