HOUSTON – Valentine’s Day is around the corner and that has many Houston singles looking for love.
If you’re tired of the bar scene and online dating was a dud, Jessica Castro may be able to help. The local cupid has a special knack for matchmaking. She boasts of a 74-percent success rate at her job with Houston Singles.
"This is Kyle and Haley. This is another couple I’ve introduced. They’re already expecting their second child," Castro said as she flipped through photos of past clients.
Like most matchmaking businesses, Houston Singles does client interviews, detailed compatibility tests and extensive background checks. But Castro’s philosophy is simple, and it has nothing to do with someone’s looks.
"Fifty years from now, you better like that person and they may look completely different," Castro said.
And forget the old saying "opposites attract." Castro advises clients to look for someone like them.
"Similar values, similar belief systems, that’s what works," Castro said.
She’s even helped clients navigate online dating.
"I’m happy for anyone to meet the love of their life whichever avenue it may be," Castro said.
She mentioned a client who went on 41 dates and they were disasters.
"But number 42 he was the one. They got married last fall," Castro said.
Castro said a smile and positive attitude can also work wonders.
"I know it can be frustrating. I was single for a long time," Castro said. "The more positive you are, the more people want to be around you."
She says be sure you’re looking for love at all the right places. Join clubs that you enjoy, volunteer and network.
