FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – Fort Bend County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating after a 19-year-old lifeguard drowned Saturday afternoon in a pool at the neighborhood recreational center where he worked.

The lifeguard, identified as Dustin Kruthaupt, was found floating in the pool at the Rosewood Recreation Center in the 26400 block of Cinco Terrace Dr. shortly before 4 p.m.

Witnesses said Kruthaupt was swimming laps in the pool and, at one point, attempted to swim the entire length of the pool underwater. When he resurfaced, he began to float. That is when other lifeguards jumped in the water, pulled Kruthaupt out and immediately began CPR.

Personnel with the Fulshear Fire Department arrived and took over CPR attempts to revive the victim. Fort Bend County EMS personnel then transported Kruthaupt to Memorial Hermann Hospital – Katy. After continued efforts to revive Kruthaupt failed, doctors pronounced him dead about 5:15 p.m.

No foul play was evident to responding deputies. An autopsy was ordered.
